This District belongs to the province of Utcubamba of the department Amazonas is characterized by its dense vegetation in the highest peaks of the district the hills Condorpuna and Shipago that regulates the microclimates, where several tributaries of the main rivers are born the Palaguas and the Shahuindo and the Chiñuña (Palto) and these in turn flow into the Marañón River.
